How did you get to WVPY?
Deanna- At the beginning of 2018 we were thinking how to juggle our investments. Mark asked, “Why don’t we invest in ourselves now?” Great plan. We did some internet searching for yoga in Corvallis and because WVPY was offering the best deal $20/30 days we chose them first. Although there were several others in town, we were so welcomed by the community that we never left.
Mark- We made a list of all the yoga studios in Corvallis planning of trying them all. We first came to WVPY and never left. The people were friendly and we liked the active flow of the classes.
What makes you laugh the most? What is your guilty pleasure?
Deanna- I really have a great laugh when my daughters make jokes. At 11 and 13 they are learning their comic delivery and it’s awesome when they make me laugh. Guilty pleasures: 1) chocolate and 2) quilting retreats (with lots of chocolate and adult beverages).
Mark- Watching people make silly life choices. Guilty pleasure is a afternoon nap most days.
What are 3 things you’d take on a deserted island? Deanna- Unlimited reading material, a knife, and my family.
Mark- Binoculars, fishing pole and a comfortable chair.
When you’re not on your mat where can we find you?
Deanna- In my sewing studio that Mark built for me.
Mark- Working in my yard or walking our dog in the farmland behind our house.
What is your greatest life lesson/learning so far?
Deanna- Don’t sweat the small stuff. In the big game of life we can get so wrapped up in the tiny little things that make us sad/mad/grumpy. Why do we not also find it easy to be grateful, joyous, and content? Finding ways to see the positive just makes things better. I like the saying: “Be like a duck, let the water roll off your back.”
Mark- Never underestimate the power of simplicity and focus on activities that bring you pleasure.
Why Baptiste Yoga?
Deanna- Community, heat, focus, and gratitude. I find that from the moment of “let’s take child’s pose” until Namaste I am completely focused on my body. Sure my mind tries to hijack the session occasionally, but so often I can just be on the mat. It’s super invigorating to be that focused.
Mark- I like the active and powerful movements in the poses.
