Yoga nidra (Sanskrit: योग निद्रा) or yogic sleepis a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the "going-to-sleep" stage, typically induced by a guided meditation. There is evidence that yoga nidra helps to relieve stress. It has been applied by the US Army to assist soldiers and first responders to recover from post-traumatic stress disorder. It promotes deep rest and relaxation that isn't found in your average meditation practice. The stages of body scan and breath awareness alone can be practiced to calm the nervous system, leading to less stress and better health.
Jessica, who just completed Baptiste Yoga's Unbreakable training, is passionate about bringing this practice to WVPY! And even better, these classes are by donation to benefit both the WVPY Compassion Fund and our local veteran community.
